I do a lot of family sessions outdoors at scenic locations in our beautiful valley, but I also offer in studio sessions. There is something about the simplicity of it - the focus is solely on the family and can give the feeling of home. This session was done all with just a plain wall and floor, but I do have a bed, chairs and other options for a totally different look. If you've done outdoor sessions before and you're looking for somethin just a bit different, a studio session could be the way to go! It also offers the advantage of daytime sessions instead of chasing that golden hour light - which gets later and later as summer approaches! Oh, and don't forget that we don't have to worry about weather at the studio!
This was such a fun extended family session! This location is one of my favourites here in the Columbia Valley - a spot on Old Coach Road near Radium Hot Springs. The beautiful mountain and valley views provide such a gorgeous backdrop for family photos.
The beaches on Lake Windermere have some beautiful spots for family sessions, whether you prefer a treed backdrop, or a lake and mountain view. Below is a beautiful fall family session shot at James Chabot in Invermere. Autumn is a great time for sessions at the beach for many reasons, one of them being that the beaches are quieter at that time of year. Grandparents with their grandchildren are some of my favourite shots to capture, since I know how special these are to both grandparents and grandchildren, not to mention the parents. I also love the "all the girls" and "all the guys" shots.
My extended family photo sessions always include time for more than just the big group shots. Each couple, siblings, parent and child shots - these are all very special relationships and mean so much for families to have. Group shots of all the cousins together are also really special to have, and for this family there are just 3 - but at times it's a big group of kiddos. While those bigger groups of littles can be challenging to capture, they are worth the effort!
Autumn has always been a favourite season for family photos. It's no wonder with the beautiful colours of changing leaves and early sunsets. This is another fall session shot down by the beach at James Chabot Provincial Park in Invermere.
So many families love to visit the area to enjoy the hot springs both in Radium and Fairmont, as well as the beautiful mountain and valley views. The East Kootenay region has so much to offer, it makes it the perfect place for a family reunion or getaway. This extended family photo session was also taken at Old Coach Road near Radium Hot Springs, BC. The reason it's one of my favourite locations is because of the beautiful open vista. It's just a perfect setting that includes the majestic mountain backdrop in the distance, the Columbia Valley Wetlands in the valley below, and the natural grasses and wildflowers all around. This session was taken midsummer, so instead of the buttery yellow grasses of the fall season, we had fresh shades of green. I'm not sure if I prefer one over the other, but the colours of the seasons definitely contribute to the feeling of each session.
